The Greenest Machine Of 2014

BMW i3 2014The New York Automotive show is currently at full throttle with all its usual flair and showbiz publicity opportunities – such as building a 2015 Mustang on the observation deck of the Empire State Building.

As has become the norm in recent years, the auto show is largely focused on new technologies and advances in sustainability and efficiency. Reflecting this focus, a single car has won both “World Car Design of the Year” and “World Green Car of the Year” at the 2014 show – the BMW i3.

In winning World Green Car of the Year, BMW’s i3 was commended for its battery system which offers a range of up to 160km off a single charge with zero tailpipe emissions.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the i3 – with its ‘nearly silent driving experience’ – also claimed the World Car Design of the Year. Its unique blend of reinforced plastic and carbon fibre allows the i3 to wield a light weight chassis that doesn’t compromise the size of the vehicle. Design experts praised the i3 for its efficiency and for being designed ‘from the ground up, with the different needs of the new century’s mega-cities in mind.’

“With its revolutionary design, innovative construction and heavy focus on sustainability the BMW i3 in itself is a compelling proposition,” said BMW Group Australia’s managing director Phil Horton.

“Add to this the innovative mobility services on offer with BMW 360 ELECTRIC and BMW ConnectedDrive, and the benefits for the BMW i3 become crystal clear”

The 2014 New York Automotive Show is open to the public until the 27th of April.
